Moscow And Rome Plagued By Protests And Riots

Riots have been breaking out in capital cities all over Europe. Rome and Moscow are the latest to be plunged into mayhem. Protests and riots broke out in Rome as Berlusconi made it through a vote of no confidence. In Russia, soccer supporters and racist nationalists began rioting and committing acts of violence. Most of those targeted in the Moscow riots were ethnic minorities.

Violence all over Rome when Berlusconi having a hard time staying in office

Italy is following in many other European countries’ footsteps by passing austerity measures. That means the Italian government and citizens have began to withdraw support with Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The Guardian reports that the parliament had a “no confidence” vote which didn’t pass as a result of three votes as many are upset with Berlusconi. Many began to hear the news that Berlusconi was still in control. This started Rome riots. There were a ton of people hurt. Fifty out of the ninety reported hurt were police officers too. There were 41 people arrested through the riots, which were attributed to trade union and revolutionary socialists.

Soccer fans in Moscow upset

Moscow rioting started after soccer matches too, reports the Christian Science Monitor. Apparently acts of violence against minorities happened. President Dimitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin have condemned the collaboration between soccer fans and racist groups which Moscow residents have noticed. Numerous arrests were made, and Prime Minister Putin blasted racists and rioters as being a “virus.”. Now Putin and Medvedev are working together to stop any outbreaks in violence. They have made it clear that it is unacceptable. Equally troubling is the fact Russia is due to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Europe wracked with violence

Violent protests have been breaking out all over Europe. Greece, France, Britain and Italy have all began austerity actions and cuts to social welfare programs. This has caused violent riots. It could be a when before any person is willing to calm down and let tensions simmer.
