Japanese Kimono
The world’s different dressing styles have all included the evergreen and simple robe. For that matter it can be considered to be one of the oldest inventions or discoveries that man has made in terms of clothing and attire. It was primarily just a mere piece of cloth which covered up the whole body. Then it came on to be divided into more and more pieces for the upper and lower parts of the body.Yet, the robe or in this case the 'single piece of cloth' has never lost its significance rather just gained more importance.
It may vary from culture to culture and country to country in its uses and features. One of the most prominent and famous of these is the Kimono Japonais or the Japanese Kimono. The Kimono is the main cultural dressing for the Japanese people. They are available and worn for both the genders i.e. men and women.Though the Kimonos for men differ slightly from those for women but there are not any major changes. The Kimono consists of a long and traditional robe which is mainly made out of a fabric known as the Tan.It is made out of a single piece of fabric and not from parts.
The Kimono is made up of a lot of different parts.Namely the Eri, Fuki, Furi, Tamoto, Sode, Uraeri and many more. The Kimono is actually a whole pice but the parts are named according to the part of the body they fit into. For example the collar of the Kimono is known as the Eri.This way it is important to know all about these various parts of the Kimono so as to be able to wear it in an ideal manner and also carry it in style. The making of the Kimono is also assigned with many small and intricate details and nuances which need to be followed while making it.
Furthermore, the Kimonos also have a lot of varieties and versions when it comes to their branches.Men’s and women’s Kimonos have been altered in some way or the other to suit the conditions around and this has led to the different styles in the Kimonos. In the case of the women’s Kimonos they are: Furisode, Hōmongi, Iromuji, Komon, Mofuku, Tomesode, Uchikake, Susohiki etc. These Kimonos are now spread and accepted in a lot of other countries and cultures and they have a fan following in other countries as well.
The Kimono Japonais today has not only been confined to Japan only but has spread its wings towards the whole world where it has been worn by people of other cultures.Surprising what a single robe can do for a country!
